FED 07 - Climate Parties Loosing Plot
Climate Change Coalition and Conservative for Climate and the Environment have made some interesting preference decisions in relation to their Senate Group Voting Tickets.
The Senate Group Voting Ticket determines how your preference flow if you vote above the line on the Senate Ballot paper for any of the parties that have groups status.
Climate Change Coalition did fairly well around Australia except for in WA where though they preferenced What Women Want and the Democrats as their second and third preference, and then have preferenced Family First and climate skeptic Graeme Campbell above the Greens and the Socialists Alliance. See article from Kalgoorlie Miner
In Queensland CCC's preferences flow to Pauline Hanson before Labor if the Democrats or the Greens don't get in.
Conservatives for Climate and Environment should really be renamed Conservatives for Conservatives as they are preferencing Family First and the Liberals ahead of the Greens and Labor in WA.
In NSW CCE have preferenced Family First and the Liberals ahead of the Greens, Labor, and the Democrats. It is a similar story for the other states,
At Vote Climate we would have thought the role of the dedicated "Climate Parties" would be to help highlight the issue of climate change in the electorate, take the lead on climate policies and to ensure the most climate friend parties win seats in both the lower house and the senate.
We have seen some promotion of the issue, but we are seeing weak policies and preferences deals promoting candidates with very poor records on climate change.
